I have been thinking on how people, as a whole, tend to see the bad in the world and not the good. They focus on what they don’t have and on the negatives. In doing this they fail to see the positives, because we all know what happens if you paint something black, all the other colours are covered up!
If you ask them how they are, they list their complaints and ailments, rather than what may be right with them. If you ask about the weather it is too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet and never just perfect! If you give a compliment, they tell you something wrong and if you smile and are happy they ask you why you are smiling! Like just being happy and joyful over life is odd!
I truly believe in seeing the positives. I am an optimist and a silver lining looker! Yes it is raining but the grass was thirsty! Yes it is cold but the snow is very pretty! I believe if you turn it around and look for the good you can actually talk yourself into seeing things differently! Better than that, your inner voices can talk your body, mind and spirit into feeling better!
Don’t get me wrong I don”t live in a bubble, I also have those negative inner voices that try to drown out my happy, but the older I get the better I am getting at telling them to shush! I believe if you want your life full of colour you have to paint it that way!
Seeing things with a positive twist can change your outlook! I know this because I have had it work over and over in my life. Have you ever smiled at someone grumpy and watched them struggle to maintain that frown? Most times they will end up smiling back and I think that is because most people really do want to be happy!
The world is full of things that can drown your optimism but happy comes from simple things too, like a shared smile, sunshine on your face, hearing a child giggle or letting a puppy kiss your nose! You have to look for the joy in life!
We often forget this in the rat race of living in the world of today.Happy isn’t a place it is a state of mind! A gift you can give yourself in you decide to live with that joyful spirit of seeing the positive. I think that is why so many people love vacations as it gives them permission to just forget about that mortgage payment or doctor appointment and just be relaxed and free. On vacation we choose to smile and let the wonder of the day sweep us away!
I wonder what would happen if we all had that kind of ‘vacation mode’ going on daily? Would the world fall apart or would it heal itself? Interesting thought isn’t it? If we all chose to see the positives and just deal with the negatives in that frame of mind would we be a world of happy souls?
Imagine the nightly news then……”Today people were seen smiling…..Have a great day!”
